A Better Hour: Express Treatments That Fit Around Your Working Day

Some self-care advice assumes you have a free afternoon, a clear diary and nowhere to be until Thursday. Real life is more like a 12:30 gap between calls, a sandwich eaten at the desk and a vague memory that your brows used to have a shape. That is where the lunch-break appointment comes in. At Coco Beauty Salon, we like to think of it as a better hour: a small, focused window that gives you more back than it takes.
Why a lunchtime appointment can work harder than a whole evening
When time is tight, you make decisions faster. There is no drifting into a three-hour treatment you did not plan for, no browsing every product on the shelf and no leaving with a routine so complicated it needs its own spreadsheet. A 45-minute slot at Coco is deliberately simple: one clear goal, one skilled therapist and a finish line that respects your diary.
The other benefit is that it is repeatable. A monthly express facial or brow tidy is easier to keep up with than an annual grand gesture. Skin tends to prefer steady care anyway. Small, regular appointments help you notice what is working and what needs adjusting, without turning your whole week upside down.
Choose the treatment that suits the time you actually have
If you have 45 minutes, pick one main treatment and one tiny add-on at most. Trying to fit a facial, a manicure and a brow wax into the same hour is how a relaxing appointment becomes a relay race. Here is how we would choose.
The express facial
This is the best option if your skin feels tight, dull or generally fed up. A good express facial usually includes a cleanse, gentle exfoliation, a targeted mask, a short massage and SPF. It is not the moment for a deep extraction session or a brand-new active ingredient you have never tried. Keep it simple and let your therapist focus on making your skin look comfortable again.
Tell us if you have been using retinoids, acids or prescription skincare, because that changes what we recommend. And if you are booking before a big event, do not use the lunch break as a trial run for something stronger. A calm, hydrating facial is a safer bet.
Brow shaping
Brow shaping is a brilliant lunchtime treatment because the result is immediate. We map the shape around your face, tidy the area and finish with aftercare. If you are having a tint as well, remember that a patch test is usually needed beforehand, so ask when you book. Do not leave that conversation until you are already in the chair with 25 minutes to spare.
Expect a little redness around the brow area afterwards. It usually settles quickly, but if you have a client presentation at 2pm, book the brows for a different day or ask us to keep the shape soft and minimal.
A quick manicure
A shape, cuticle tidy and polish can make you feel instantly put together, especially if your hands are on show during meetings or you are heading to a winter social after work. Allow drying time in your head, not just appointment time. If you are rushing straight back to a keyboard, mention it when you book so we can choose a finish that suits your day.
A sheer or nude shade is forgiving if you are hard on your hands. A bold colour is brilliant if you want the appointment to feel like a small event. Either way, do not book a manicure into a slot that leaves you no time to pay, gather your things and walk out calmly.
What to tell us before you book
Book the appointment around the time you need to leave, not just the time you can arrive. If your meeting ends at 12:15 and you need to be back by 1:15, say so. We can then tell you honestly whether the treatment fits, rather than squeezing it and hoping for the best.
Mention any sensitivities, allergies, pregnancy, medication or recent skin treatments. Tell us if you have a patch test due for tinting. Tell us if you are coming by bus, Tube or car and need a few minutes for parking or paying. These details are not fussy. They are how we make the appointment feel calm instead of clipped.
Arrive five minutes early rather than fifteen. A quick arrival gives you time to settle, fill in any forms and take your coat off without watching the clock. If you are running late, call us. We would always rather know and adjust than have you arrive flustered.
How to leave polished, not rushed
Ask for SPF at the end of a facial, especially if you are walking back out into daylight. If you need to put makeup on afterwards, tell your therapist so they can keep the finish comfortable. For brows, a little concealer or sunglasses can be your friend. For nails, use the drying time to answer emails in the reception area rather than rummaging for your keys.
The goal is not to look as though you have had a full afternoon of treatments. The goal is to look like you, but less tired. That might mean softer skin, a tidier brow and hands that no longer look like they have been opening parcels all week.
The smartest self-care is the kind you can repeat
A lunch-break treatment will not fix every skin concern or solve a stressful month. It is not meant to. What it can do is give you a proper pause in the middle of a working day, a bit of expert attention and a result you can see. For a lot of our clients, that is the sweet spot: 45 minutes at Coco, booked before the diary fills up, repeated often enough to make a difference.
If you have been waiting for the perfect free day to look after yourself, we would gently suggest that the perfect free day may never arrive. A better hour is much easier to find.
